Grade 2023 graduate students of School of Journalism and Communication paid a visit to the Safety Education Hall of Datong Student Center at Jinnan Campus on March 21, where they were accompanied by an instructor explaining safety knowledge to them.

After watching the demonstration on cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and the Heimlich maneuver by the instructor, students offered to try personally for better understanding. In the fire drill, many students operated fire extinguishers for the first time by performing lifting, pulling, gripping, and pressing. Through simulation demonstration of electric vehicle fires and the investigation of dormitory safety hazards, students realized the importance of campus fire safety and prevention of fire hazards. The simulation of drug abuse images helped students develop an intuitive understanding of the tremendous harm of drugs. In the VR experience zone, students were immersed in a disaster scenario and learned how to get out of danger on their own. In the anti-fraud education module, students learned relevant anti-fraud knowledge, exchanged their experience of receiving fraudulent phone calls or information, and shared their insight into resisting fraudulent attempts.

The experience-friendly Safety Education Hall explains safety knowledge in a fun way. The Hall is equipped with sophisticated technologies and scenes such as VR interaction, light and shadow rendering, and video playback and explanation, where students have access to novel experiences. Moreover, students have mastered safety knowledge and raised their risk awareness through communication and interaction, fun quizzes, and simulated challenges.

Many students said that this visit left a deep impression on them, and they hope to come back to the hall next time. Li Changping, a Grade 2023 master's student majoring in Journalism and Communication, said, This visit is very interesting. We listened to detailed instructions and tried many experiential operations. I have gained a clearer understanding of safety hazards in our daily lives and practiced how to avoid risks and make rescues. It is a worthwhile visit. I hope we can have more opportunities to take part in such activities.”

It is learned that the School of Journalism and Communication will further apply the holistic approach to national security, carry out a series of security education activities, improve the safety awareness of students, and enhance protection capabilities, in a bid to build a safe school.
