China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center (CDGDC) of the Ministry of Education announced the evaluation results of the thematic cases collected in 2023. Professor Liu Zhongbo from the School of Journalism and Communication was granted permission for his thematic case, “Innovation Practice in Village Chronicle Documentaries Inherit Chinese Excellent Traditional Culture”.

His program is designed based on the descriptions, extension, and promotion of traditional cultural spirit and Chinese aesthetic character in the village chronicle documentaries, focusing on the cultural dissemination and empowerment of documentaries in the inheritance and development of Chinese culture. The case summarizes the narrative expression and aesthetic presentation of typical village chronicle documentaries, explores a way to integrate Chinese culture with audio-visual art, and demonstrates the unique value of documentaries in the inheritance of Chinese local culture.

The case study focuses on promoting the effective combination of documentary creation and professional degree case teaching. By looking into the visual expression of traditional culture, classical aesthetics, and artistic spirit in Chinese documentaries, the case helps students establish an aesthetic awareness of classical aesthetics and inherit our traditional culture consciously.

Case teaching is a critical way to cultivate the practical ability of graduate students with professional degrees, boost teaching reform, and advance the integration of teaching and practice. It is also an important means to foster reform in the training mode of graduate students of professional degrees.

The collection of thematic cases has stimulated the development of high-level original cases and has become an important driving force for China's case construction, a major source of high-quality original cases, and a significant brand for case construction with Chinese characteristics. It has fully demonstrated the fruitful achievements of Chinese characteristics both theoretically and practically.

The 2023 thematic case collection of the CDGDC was carried out in four major themes: Smart Manufacturing in China, Inheritance of Chinese Culture, Coordinated Regional Development, and Going Global.

Other NKU programs approved include “Inheritance and Tourism Development of Traditional Folk Culture in China–Taking Situ Town in Shanxi Province as an Example” by Professor Chen Ye from College of Tourism and Service Management, “Cohesion: The Path to Inheritance and Innovative Development of Chinese Culture in Characteristic Fields” by Associate Professor Zhai Lei from Zhou Enlai School of Government, “Small Seeds, Big Industries: Universities Support to Fertilize the Land of Western Areas and Empower High-quality Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine Industry” by Professor Wang Chunguo from College of Life Sciences, and “Cross-border Mergers and Acquisitions, Resource Integration, and Mixed Ownership Reform of State-owned Enterprises” by Professor Li Shijie from the School of Economics.
