In order to further improve the safety awareness of teachers and students and help them master fire knowledge and evacuation skills, the School of Journalism and Communication organized a fire drill at Xiushan Hall on April 11. Ma Changhong, Secretary of the CPC Committee of the School, and Chen Peng and Li Hui, leaders of the School, were present at the drill. The drill was chaired by Chen Peng and attended by about 70 teachers, students and property staff of the School.

In the mobilizing speech, Chen Peng emphasized the importance of fire safety, and expressed expectations that teachers and students will enhance their safety awareness and further improve their fire prevention ability through the drill. He introduced the School’s fire prevention force of “one commander and four functional teams” and the emergency response measures, and made a detailed explanation of the drill arrangement.

During the fire safety training, Zhang Qi from the Security Department made a detailed explanation of the classification and hazards of fire, the principle of fire extinguishing and common fire-fighting facilities, and used real cases to remind teachers and students to build a strong sense of responsibility and guard the safety line.

The drill began at 1:30 p.m. when the fire alarm went off at Xiushan Hall. The School’s “one commander and four functional teams” assumed their respective roles and worked together in accordance with the contingency plan. All the teachers and students took quick actions and evacuated to the open space in front of the Xiushan Hall building through the nearest stairs and safety exits in an orderly manner.

Zhang Qi instructed how to use fire-fighting appliances such as the dry powder fire extinguisher, carbon dioxide fire extinguisher, fire blanket and gas mask. Teachers, students and property staff used the fire extinguishers under the professional guidance. Through the hands-on experience and on-site interaction, teachers and students gained a deeper understanding of fire safety.
