The 35th “President’s Cup” is in full swing. The School of Journalism and Communication teams have played hard, united together and performed excellently in the basketball and volleyball matches, fully demonstrating the School’s sports spirit and athletic style.

Women’s volleyball:

Winning both matches and advancing to the next round,

showcasing team strength

On April 20, the School of Journalism and Communication (SJC) women’s volleyball team wrote a brilliant chapter with strength and sweat. Within one day, they defeated the College of Artificial Intelligence (CAI) team with 2:0 and the School of Marxism (SM) team with 2:1. Winning both matches, they stood out in the group stage and successfully advanced to the quarterfinals. 

In the first match against CAI team, SJC team quickly adjusted themselves and launched fierce attacks with perfect cooperation. With accurate serves, sharp spikes and solid defense, they led all the way to an easy 2:0 win. This victory not only showed SJC team’s strong performance, but also built good confidence for the next match. 

Facing the strong SM team, SJC team didn’t relax a minute. The two sides fought back and forth with scores catching up alternately. SJC team withstood the pressure and dared to attack at critical moments. After intense competition, SJC team finally won the match with a difficult 2:1. This victory further demonstrated their fighting spirit and team cohesion. 

With two victories in one day, SJC team proved themselves with their strength and won the honor for the School. Participating in the “President’s Cup” for the second time, SJC team showed impressive skills and good spirit. They not only won applause from the audience with their outstanding performance, but also accumulated valuable experience for the upcoming matches.

Men’s basketball:

Fighting harder and harder against strong rivals, demonstrating perseverance

As of April 26, the School of Journalism and Communication and the College of Chinese Language and Culture (SJC-CCLC) men’s joint basketball team completed three intense competitions with the College of Environmental Science and Engineering (CESE) team, the School of Marxism and the College of Philosophy (SM-CPHI) joint team, and the College of Pharmacy (CPHA) team, but unfortunately stopped at the group stage. Though they failed to go further, SJC team won applause and respect with their fighting spirit and perseverance. 

Facing the rivals from the draw - SM-CPHI team, Jinnan Campus champion of the previous “President’s Cup” basketball tournament, and strong CESE team and CPHA team, SJC team didn’t give up easily and showed indomitable fighting spirit. 

During the matches, SJC team overcame unfavorable factors such as fewer players and limited training time, and tried all out in every match. The players cooperated well with each other with perfect ball passing and active defense, showing excellent basketball skills and teamwork spirit. Their fighting spirit and sportsmanship won the applause and respect of the audience. Liu Congrui, Zhuang Lingzhi and Shangguan Weijie also achieved good individual results.

For SJC team, competition meant much more than score. They gained valuable experience and growth as well as a deeper understanding of unity, struggle and fighting through the competition. They demonstrated the ethos of SJC students and conveyed the spirit of unity and struggle in competitive sports.
