In the elimination match of the “President’s Cup” volleyball tournament held on the evening of April 30, the School of Journalism and Communication (SJC) women’s volleyball team had a fierce competition with the previous champion, the School of Finance (SF) women’s volleyball team.

As soon as the match started, both teams shifted between defense and offense quickly. SF team won more points with excellent teamwork and accurate passing. However, SJC team didn't get discouraged and gradually narrowed the gap in score with their rich experience and excellent skills, but unfortunately they still lost in the first two games with 15:25 and 20:25.

The match heated up in the third game. Both teams showed strong will to win and the audience could hardly catch up with the two teams’ scores rising alternately. Ma Hongying from the School of Marxism was cheering for SJC team off the court, guiding them on how to play and how to take the position with her own experience. With her help, SJC team gradually adjusted their pace and played better and better. However, SF team seized the opportunity later in the game to gradually widen the gap. Though SJC team tried hard to catch up, they still failed to turn the situation round ultimately.

Faced with the strong rival, SJC team was not afraid at all, but demonstrated excellent skills. The ace spiker stood out a number of times at critical moments, and won points for the team with excellent spiking skills. Together with the setter who passed the ball accurately, and the first passer who received the ball steadily, the three players cooperated with each other harmoniously and formed a solid triangular matrix. Other players guarded their respective positions and focused their attention to minimize mistakes.

During the interview after the match, Wei Chujing, captain of SJC team said, “It’s a great pity that we didn’t win the match, but we will definitely learn a lesson from this defeat and continue to improve our skills.” Wei Chujing recognized the performance of the team members and thanked them for their tenacity and team spirit in the match.

SJC team expressed their gratitude for the great performance of the rival SF team. Though the team had to stop here, they will devote themselves in future training with more enthusiasm and improved skills.
