At the first China Digital Publishing Young Scholars (Editors) Forum, which just concluded today, Professor Qi Dexiang and graduate student Zhao Qihui of the Class of 2023 from School of Journalism and Communication won the “High-Quality Paper” Award for their paper Exploration of the Expression Path of National Image in Game Discourse from the Perspective of Symbol Aggregation.

To drive the development of new productive forces in the publishing industry and promote the emerging formats and models in digital publishing, the editorial departments of China Digital Publishing, China Terminology, and Digital Publishing Research jointly launched a themed essay contest for the first China Digital Publishing Youth Forum. Following a blind review by the evaluation panel and a double review by the three editorial departments, 26 high-quality papers and 30 excellent papers were finally selected from 162 submissions across 132 participating institutions.

National image holds immeasurable strategic significance in international competition, where its shaping and optimization have become an indispensable winning strategy. The award-winning paper, Exploration of the Expression Path of National Image in Game Discourse from the Perspective of Symbol Aggregation focuses on the emerging form of national image expression - game discourse. Using Ernest Bormann's theory of symbolic convergence, the paper analyzes specific cases such as Black Myth: Wukong, Genshin Impact, and Ink, Mountains and Mystery, explores the form of incorporating cultural symbols in online games, and attempts to examine the practical ideas, challenges and countermeasures of the expression path of national image in game discourse, with the aim of promoting the effective dissemination of national image and enhancing international communication effectiveness.

Zhao Qihui said: “First of all, I would like to thank Professor Qi Dexiang for his meticulous guidance and continuous support during the writing process. I’m honored to participate in this Forum, and listen to the insights shared by industry and academic experts, as well as my outstanding peers. This experience has broadened my horizons, allowing me to engage deeply in our area of expertise and fostering a meeting of minds. Besides, it allows me to observe the basic issues and academic dynamics in different research fields. I hope that through this opportunity, I can better apply theory to practice, continue to internalize knowledge, and contribute innovative output.”
