On October 15, on the occasion of NKU's 105th anniversary, Zhao Qizheng, former director of the State Council Information Office and Nankai alumnus, visited the School of Journalism and Communication. He delivered a compelling lecture titled “Be Prepared, and Study Hard to Achieve China’s Modernization Drive”, as part of NKU's 105th-anniversary academic lecture series. President Chen Yulu met with Zhao Qizheng prior to the lecture. Deputy Secretary of the CPC NKU Committee Niu Wenli attended the lecture and delivered a speech.
In his lecture, Zhao Qizheng conducted an in-depth analysis of the development process of Chinese-style modernization. He analyzed the challenges encountered and experiences gained during the development and construction of Pudong New Area where he worked before, emphasized the importance of effective guidance of international public opinion and improvement of the international public opinion environment for the modernization drive, and shared his reflections on international communication and cultural exchange, providing valuable insights for the participating teachers and students on how to tell China's stories and spread China's voice well.
Following the lecture, Zhao Qizheng engaged in discussions with teachers and students on-site on topics such as “How to tell China's stories well to different audiences” and “How to control the narrative and better communicate China to the world”. Zhao Qizheng suggested selecting appropriate means of communication according to specific circumstances. He stressed the importance of maintaining authenticity, sincerity, and simplicity in communication, and telling concrete, relatable Chinese stories to provide the international community with a comprehensive understanding of a real and multi-dimensional China, so as to eliminate misunderstandings and foster trust.
Finally, Zhao Qizheng urged the students to adhere to NKU’s educational objective of “Knowing China and Serving China”, develop their ambition and capability, and contribute their part to the realization of Chinese-style modernization.
More than 100 teachers and students attended the lecture.
