On October 11, Qi Dexiang, professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Journalism and Communication, and Executive Vice Dean of the Publishing Research Institute, spoke as a guest speaker at Tianjin Publishing and Media Group's seminar on promoting high-quality development of the publishing industry. He gave a lecture titled “Innovative Strategies for China's International Publishing Communication under the New Situation”, which is part of a series of academic lectures organized for the celebration of NKU's 105th anniversary.
Starting from the new tasks and requirements put forward by the 14th Five-Year Plan for the publishing industry, Professor Qi explained the new mission of China's international publishing communication as well as the challenges it faces. He pointed out that there is still a gap from truly integrating into the mainstream international publishing market, and that China's international publishing communication urgently needs to shift its focus from scale growth to quality growth. The emergence of the Internet and new technologies has brought more convenience to international publishing communication. Utilizing new technologies to recreate valuable content, building an ecosystem for international digital publishing communication, accelerating the transition to international publishing communication primarily characterized by digital content, digital production, and digital transmission, and forming a new pattern of international publishing communication with deep online-offline integration are new trends for future development.
Regarding ways of innovation for China's international publishing communication, he believes that, to address the new challenges and solve the new problems, it is necessary to make innovation in multiple aspects, such as concepts and ideas, communication contents, publishing methods, and communication channels, so as to promote high-quality development of China's international publishing communication.
For future development directions, Professor Qi believes that new technologies should be used to realize valuable content recreation, and innovations in products, channels and services, so as to build a new system of international communication with highly integrated development. Based on an in-depth analysis of the international communication ecology, media landscape, and communication models, a domestic and international dual-circulation development model should be adopted to better utilize both markets and resources, and unleash the potential for development and innovation. Through resource integration, scientific planning, and reasonable deployment, a new pattern of China's international publishing communication with extensive coverage, key focus and distinct levels will be formed.
More than 80 mid-level and above cadres and key business personnel from Tianjin Publishing and Media Group and its subsidiaries attended the event, and editors from its various subsidiaries participated online concurrently.
