On October 22, Professor Li Benqian, Director of the Institute of Intelligent Communication at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, visited the School of Journalism and Communication and gave a lecture titled Innovative Models for Telling China's Stories Well in the AI Era, focusing on how artificial intelligence empowers the international communication of Chinese stories. This lecture is part of NKU's 105th-anniversary academic lecture series.
Professor Li reviewed the development history of the Internet, analyzed the impact of AI technology on journalism and communication, and used abundant examples to illustrate the transformation and challenges brought about by artificial intelligence in various aspects of journalistic practice, as well as the governance considerations it triggers. Using cases of China, he analyzed the favorable perceptions and evaluations of the international community of China's stories, and proposed approaches for telling China's stories well in cross-cultural communication: finding neutral points and common ground when encountering conflicts, considering the psychology and culture of Western audiences, and seeking maximum benefit and effectiveness. He pointed out that to tell China's stories well in international communication, we should align the media world with the real world, maintain strategic confidence in telling China's stories well, ensure more systematic and synergistic international communication, and leverage audiences such as international students to showcase a more authentic, multi-dimensional, and comprehensive China to the world.
The academic lecture provided important inspiration for teachers and students to gain a deeper understanding of how to better embrace technology in the AI era, tell China's stories and spread China's voice well in intelligent communication, and provided a reference for the construction and development of related disciplines.
