On the afternoon of November 18, the 2024 Publishing Discipline Joint Construction Work Exchange Meeting was held at Renmin University of China. Hu Heping, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee in charge of daily work, and Xiong Sihao, Vice Minister of Education, attended the meeting and delivered speeches.
Participants stated that Xi Jinping Thought on Culture and General Secretary Xi Jinping's important expositions on education have provided fundamental guidance for the construction of publishing disciplines. The construction of publishing disciplines is a foundational and long-term undertaking in the publishing field. With the attention and support of relevant local governments and departments, and the concerted efforts of joint construction universities and institutions, the publishing discipline construction has received precise and effective policy guidance. The scale and quality of joint construction publishing schools and research institutes have steadily improved, high-level talent cultivation has progressed rapidly, breakthroughs have been made in the establishment of doctoral programs in publishing, and the effects of joint construction have gradually emerged.
The meeting emphasized the need to thoroughly study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Culture and General Secretary Xi Jinping's important expositions on education, implement the major deployments made by the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee focusing on building a strong nation in culture and education, focus on the mission and tasks of the publishing undertaking in the new era, work towards the goal of building first-class disciplines, further improve the implementation of the ImplementationOpinions on Promoting the Joint Construction of Publishing Disciplines, and continuously promote the construction and joint construction of publishing disciplines to achieve new progress and accomplishments. It is necessary to strengthen the construction of publishing majors and degree programs, encourage joint construction universities to actively establish professional master's and doctoral degree authorization points in publishing, and optimize the establishment of publishing-related majors and research directions. It is necessary to forge an excellent publishing faculty force, strengthen the cultivation of leading scholars, young teachers, and industry mentors, and optimize the faculty structure. It is necessary to improve the level of publishing talent cultivation, carry out collaborative education between universities and publishing houses, strengthen textbook and curriculum development, and cultivate a big pool of outstanding academic talents and professional talents. It is necessary to strengthen the industry-education-research-application integration, study and establish a mechanism for scholars from joint construction universities to conduct on-site research on the front line of the publishing industry, increase the guidance of the National Social Science Fund and the National Publication Fund on the construction of publishing disciplines, expand the dissemination channels for scientific research achievements of joint construction universities, and encourage these universities to participate in the high-quality construction plan of publishing think tanks. It is necessary to enhance the synergy of the joint construction endeavor to jointly promote the construction of publishing schools and research institutes. Joint construction universities should provide guarantee in terms of adequate funding, educational resources, and hardware conditions, joint construction departments and institutions should provide support in terms of financial resources, industry mentors, and industry-university-research platforms, other competent publishing houses and digital publishing companies should actively participate in the joint construction endeavor, and relevant supporting institutions should well liaise and coordinate to effectively promote the implementation of the joint construction endeavor.
The exchange meeting was organized by the National Liaison Office for Joint Construction of Publishing Disciplines, hosted by the Publishing Institute of Renmin University of China, and co-sponsored by the School of Journalism and Communication, Renmin University of China, China Renmin University Press, the School of Publishing, Communication University of China, and the School of Publishing, Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication. About 100 people attended the meeting, including responsible personnel from the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Education, relevant local publishing management departments, universities, publishing houses, and industry associations.
