Students from School of Journalism and Communication Excel at 8th Taofen Cup National Book Editing and Proofreading Skills Competition

Recently, the National Press and Publication Administration issued the Decision on Commending the Winning Collectives and Individuals of the 8th Taofen Cup National Book Editing and Proofreading Skills Competition(GXCF [2025] No. 1). Students from NKU School of Journalism and Communication achieved outstanding results, capturing multiple awards in the competition.

The print simulation book Prodigy Explores Herbs: A Parent-Child Interactive Science Game Book (Advisor: Yu Mengli), produced by Cao Yixuanzi, Guo Yichen, and Zhang Xuan, was awarded Second Prize. Centered on the core concept of opening the first door to traditional Chinese medicine for children, the work innovatively integrates traditional Chinese herbal culture with children's science education. Through immersive storytelling, interactive games, and multimedia technology, it guides children aged 7–12 on an exploratory journey into the world of Chinese herbs. The project creatively combines AR technology, DIY figurines, and parent-child interaction cards to build an edutainment learning environment. The accompanying game cards that combine word puzzles and knowledge quizzes aim to spark children's self-driven exploration, while colorable figurines and planting kits aim to reinforce their cognitive understanding through hands-on practice. The book also features herb identification and medicine-making experiences, complemented by online knowledge contests and Chinese aesthetic photography events, forming a multidimensional educational model that combines family learning with cultural dissemination. Team member Guo Yichen also received an Individual Excellence Award in the student category.

The electronic simulation book Time Adventurer: My Archaeological Notebook (Advisor: Liu Zhongbo), produced by Tian Yushu, Quan Jia, and Yan Ruizhuo, was awarded Third Prize. This interactive youth science book, themed around technological archeology and historical relics, incorporates role-playing game (RPG) elements. Readers can assume the roles of archaeologists or scientists, completing main quests that lead to diverse storylines and endings. The e-book features an accompanying mini-program platform that employs 3D modeling and augmented reality (AR) technologies, effectively bridging traditional science education with modern techniques to create an immersive, edutainment-focused learning experience.

The 8th Taofen Cup National Book Editing and Proofreading Skills Competition, organized by the National Press and Publication Administration and co-hosted by the Publishers Association of China, Taofen Foundation, Chinese Society of Editors, and Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication, is a national-level competition in book editing and proofreading, featuring two categories: one for editing and proofreading professionals and another for university students. Aligned with the new cultural missions of the new era, the competition aims to advance the development of China into a strong cultural and publishing powerhouse, and drive the cultivation of a high-caliber, professional team of book editors and proofreaders, providing talent support for ideological and cultural communication endeavors in the new era and on the new journey. After rigorous selection processes, 34 teams including Nanjing University and 34 individual contestants from institutions including East China Normal University were awarded First, Second, Third, and Excellence Prizes in the student category.

The accolades not only affirm the School's achievements in talent cultivation, but also demonstrate the professional expertise and practical capabilities of our faculty and students in the field of book editing and proofreading. Building on students' preliminary work, the School meticulously prepared for the competition by assigning faculty advisors to mentor the contestants. Through school-level evaluations, outstanding works were selected and submitted to Tianjin Municipality for the national competition, culminating in this impressive achievement.
