Recently, the eastern corridor on the second floor of Xiushan Hall at NKU School of Journalism and Communication underwent a quiet refresh. Green-toned psychological knowledge display boards, shaped like a thriving tree, now adorn the space, complemented by neatly arranged lounge chairs, potted plants, and a variety of stress-relief toys and psychology books on the tables. Students passing by stop to peruse the illustrated guides on Emotional Management Techniques on the boards or engage in conversations in the verdant corner.
To deepen mental health initiatives, the School officially launched the Mind Oasis, Warm Companionship Psychological Corner in the eastern corridor area on the second floor of Xiushan Hall. As a key practical platform for the School's secondary psychological counseling station, the Psychological Corner serves as a cozy space for students to regulate their emotions, alleviate stress, and engage in heartfelt exchanges, fostering their healthy growth.
The design plan for the Psychological Corner had undergone multiple revisions. The first phase divides the area into sections for interactive exchange, emotional counseling, and psychological education, featuring mental health education display boards, positive psychology books, and stress-relief toys. The education display boards offer practical tips such as Guidelines for Addressing Common Psychological Issues and Five-Step Emotional Management Techniques. Students can not only study the materials, but also leave messages in the interactive zone, sharing their moments of happiness and warmth. The leisure and stress-relief zone, with its soft hues and lush greenery, creates a relaxing atmosphere where students can take short breaks and engage in self-regulation.
More than just an accessible sanctuary, the Psychological Corner conveys warmth and strength in a subtle, nurturing manner, empowering students to confront academic and life challenges with greater resilience. Various Party and Youth League branches, as well as classes from the School, have organized diverse activities in the Psychological Corner. During themed salons, students gather to discuss mental health concerns and coping strategies, while stress-relief workshops encourage participants to utilize stress-relief toys to release pressure. These activities have breathed life into the Psychological Corner.
Going forward, the School plans to enhance the Psychological Corner’s functionality through regular theme updates and new interactive facilities. Collaborative activities between teachers and students such as themed salons and stress-relief workshops will further advance the development of the School's secondary psychological counseling station, continuously enrich students’ mental health experiences, and deepen the effectiveness of mental health education.
